The Irish Goodbye Cottage is designed as an all-inclusive, extended-stay sanctuary nestled on a collaborative multi-acre property in the Illinois hills. Designed for individuals and families navigating end-of-life with intention and unhurried grace, the Cottage will offer bedside Doula care by Kayla Grieve, thoughtful culinary support by her Chef and Innkeeping husband Michael, and a full suite of restorative offerings including equine therapy, sound bathing, and programs designed to reduce anxiety, support families, and create dignity in transition.

The Cottage is the physical extension of everything Irish Goodbye has always been — a safe place to rest, built on the belief that endings deserve as much care, intention, and beauty as any beginning.

Kayla Grieve is the founder of Irish Goodbye, an End of Life Doula and Legacy Advising company reimagining how we prepare for, experience, and remember death. Inspired by the loss of her father and the example he set around dying, Kayla creates practical and meaningful tools for end-of-life planning to help people feel connected, prepared, and supported throughout. 23 years of loving you and we don’t have a single photo together — lesson learned, note to all, take more photos starting now ♥️ I have galleries of your face, starting with photographing your wedding nearly 14 years ago and until just before your first beautiful girl was born.

When we met in high school as co-workers at Williamsburg Dry Cleaners, I was immediately disarmed by you. You were hot enough to be a jerk if you had wanted to be, but chose the complete opposite. There was this immediate kinship between us - we aligned on being nomads from small towns, our dreams of romance, our openness with mental health and our sense of humor - you’re the one and only person to ever stump me on an Office quote and the only other teenage girl in the 00’s who also loved the Beatles. I feel grateful to have found you early on, knowing you made me feel less alone, even from states away. Knowing you was the gift of a lifetime ♥️

I created Irish Goodbye as a place for people to feel comfortable and comforted in their grief and loss - I hate more than words that it was Cari, but of course it is, because before her death, she was someone who loudly and proudly supported everything I ever tried or did. Before this news I was spending all of my time motivated by memory and building tools and courses for people feeling what I am now suddenly freshly feeling - creating something in her wake that is helping me personally to grieve her, something that will give her family and friends a place to visit her memory as needed and connect with Brett & the girls, and is something I hope to provide to so many other family’s in life and loss — I look forward to sharing with you all soon ♥️

Ps. I often put optimistic dates on big goals, but this one will be coming soon - as a gift to Cari’s beautiful family, my own, and hopefully yours. Let’s change the conversation around grief, I’ll bring the tools ♥️
